Toriyama pretty much had free reign with the Battle of Gods script. He changed it to the point where it was a totally different film, and he also wrote the script for Fukkatsu no F, iirc. Why, then, is he re-telling both of them so soon after creating them? It's not like the script included something that he didn't like; he could change what he wanted. Now, he's disregarding both of them in favour of Super. I realise that artistic visions change, but this just paints him in a bad light, imo. |

I bet the idea of Super hit them late, after BOG and RF was already done and in the making. So I guess to prevent from making anything more complicated or complex, they went ahead and decided to retell the movies, in the traditional manga and anime (episodes) form, pretty much throwing the movies back as regular movies. At least they're shooting for them to be viewed that way, all in my opinion.

Are you sure he's disregarding them? I thought he was making the connections. |

He's going to tire himself out again and then we'll get more Boo saga-caliber stints. |

Nah, he's already contradicting BoG in Super and we're only two episodes in. He's going to be re-telling BoG and FnF. What I don't get is this; if BoG and FnF were so restricting when it came to the timeline, why didn't Toriyama just disregard Yo! and put BoG half a year or so after the Boo saga? It just seems like he foolishly wrote himself into a situation where he had to go back and change things. |

He's probably just having fun. I'm not saying, "let him," but this is kinda a weird way of doing things, his way of doing things. |

You've never created something and being unhappy with it later? It's pretty common for artists to think their art is bad months later, or writers to think their stories are bad, or even for students to look back on work from a few months ago and think it's terrible. Just because Toriyama was happy with it then doesn't mean he can't look back on it and go "Oh I wish I had done that...". Of course, whether retelling two recent movies or not for a brand new TV series is a good idea is very debatable. Personally if the series tells them better than the movies then I don't really care. |

Sure I have, but never on a professional level and never on something as popular and important as Dragon Ball. He could've easily just made it 6 months after the Boo saga and left it open to be continued at a later date. He even mentioned the 12 Universes in a movie that was already set 5 years after the Boo saga, so he obviously left it open to something else later on. If the Super re-telling is much better/almost completely different, then it'll be more acceptable, but it just doesn't make sense to me. |

I can see that being the case with BOG to be honest. To be real, it wasn't all that good, probably due to being a spontaneous idea that got finished. I can see it easily being the case with him, not liking it and wanting to improve it, since he's too deep into it or whatever. |

Maybe he didn't have full control over BoG, so alot of the story might not be his ideas. With super, A. Toriyama is head writer and survisor of the entire show, is that correct? |

I agree with Nagito. In light of the events in Super, it's basically acting as if BoG and RoF never come to exist later in the time line. It borrows concepts from those films, but it's basically a plot re-write that's put into an actual series. However, in Toriyama's defense, he didn't actually originally script Battle of Gods, and he may be trying to have Super be consistent with the end of Z where Bulma claims that they haven't seen Goku in 5 years. Eh, we'll see how different it ends up really being. Judging by the episode titles leak, we're going to be up to the main BOG fight by episode 5. It's a 100 episode series, assuming both movies get a similar amount of material we could be done with the movie recaps after about 15 episodes or so, which is such a small amount of the entire thing. It's a bit weird though, especially in RoF's case considering it's so recent. I guess maybe they thought it'd be smoother to link it in with having the events in the actual series rather than just the movies but who knows. |

To be honest though, how many of the original 13 movies can be placed into the continuity of the manga series? Very few, if any. |

The movies Battle of Gods and Fukatsu no F were just the prototype version of Dragon Ball Super. In other words AT and his investors were, from the start, planning a new Dragon Ball series. But they weren't certain has to proceed with it or not because they were worried whether it would bring them the required profit(i.e The expected number of viewers were acquired). Since they have acquired their expected number of viewers they proceeded on with Dragon Ball Super. Also, this isn't a surprise they have done this before somewhere around the Imperfect Cell Saga in DBZ. The movie Dragon Ball Z Super Android 13 was the prototype version of Cell Saga. Other example was the movie in which Gogeta present. They usually do movies to explore some crude ideas or concepts which,if successful, would be explored and expanded in the series. |
